Eighteen outstanding student artists have been selected as the winners of the City of Santa Fe’s Ninth Annual Children’s Water Conservation Poster Contest. This year’s theme is “Living in a Drought”. Students in first through sixth grade submitted more than 375 posters for consideration. Sabrina De Domenico, a sixth grade student from Santa Fe School for the Arts & Sciences, is the Grand Prize Winner with her entry “Que Esta Servia Se Ha ldo! Let the Drought be Gone!”.
The selection committee praised the winning poster as creative, intelligent, and having a strong water conservation message. “The number of posters that were submitted represents the successful response our community has made to water conservation,” stated Rebecca Wurzburger, City Councilor and Mayor Pro Tem. “This is an engaging activity that has clearly captured the imagination of the kids”.
The Santa Fe City Council will honor the 18 students on June 13 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 200 Lincoln Avenue. The winning posters will be on display at City Hall until June 30. The contestants were judged on water conservation message, originality and visual effectiveness. All winners receive a trophy and prize package. First and second place winners will be included in the 2013 Water Conservation Calendar. The Grand Prize winning poster will be displayed as a water conservation message on a Santa Fe Trails bus for one year.
