A Carol of Christmas

Book by Juliana Jones with Roy M. Rogosin; Lyrics by Juliana Jones; Book & Music by Roy M. Rogosin

Christmas and Chanukah? Peter Pan and Scrooge? Sad little boys and their broken fathers? What a motley mélange of familiar scenes and heart-stirring old friends. But, surely, they have absolutely nothing to do with one another. Or do they?

The holidays are descending upon New York City. The Sycamore Street Theatre’s Christmas production is barely able to compete with the bigger, flashier shows. Belle, the deaf younger sister of Toby will, once again, endure a silent Christmas. And, unless their frustrated father, unemployed writer Charles Dickens IV, can come up with a fresh and original idea, there will be no joy for these simple people who rely on tradition and memory to fill their days. The stage will remain empty. And there will be no voices lifted in song.

Until Charles is invited to come out and play!

Charles is terrified by the challenge presented by the gluttonous theatre owners; he is inspired by his long-forgotten compatriots, but, ultimately, he is loved through his pain by his clear-hearted fiancée. And, oh yes, he is shadowed by the specter of the familiar childhood ghosts, who seem very out of place, trying hard to fit in. The good guys: Peter Pan, Christopher Robin, Dorothy from Oz and Alice from Wonderland. The bad guys: Captain Hook, Scrooge, and Rumplestilskin! Are the characters real or imaginary? The answer is YES! They are real if you believe.

What results is a moving and hilarious account of renewed friendships, shared dreams and unexpected reasons for celebration.
